Today’s Surprising Nichols Update

Posted by Maggie on January 17, 2008

Everyone’s been noticably stingy lately in Atlanta. Grady Hospital, which everyone agrees has to stay open, can’t get any money from anyone. And with that big a cause, you’d think Brian Nichols would be a long shot.

So I was shocked when Fulton County agreed to put up the cash to get Nichols a mental health assessment. And now it seems we’re moving from a total stall to the ability to go on with jury selection in coming weeks. No official word yet on if or when jury selection will start up again, but at least this is the first sign that we’re closer to trial in months. Every other development it seems pulls us farther and farther from a resolution.

Just in case you were wondering, Fulton didn’t ignore Grady. They got a $30 million advance in funding.
