More Trouble for Piedmont DA

Posted by Maggie on December 11, 2007

I reported a couple months ago on the firing of the Piedmont Circuit District Attorney. (The Piedmont Circuit covers areas around Athens, the home of the University of Georgia.) That story was all about the misappropriation of funds and such loveliness.

In a bizarre twist, the former DA has now been cleared by GBI as not being the guy who robbed two banks. No one told us he was a suspect. And they won’t say why they got a search warrant for his house. They also won’t tell us what was found at the house. It seems a little weird to go from fudging time cards to robbing banks. Which makes me wonder if he was actually a suspect in the robberies or if this was another opportunity to harass him or search for additional evidence. No matter what, it’s a weird story getting weirder.
