Today’s Nichols Update

Posted by Maggie on December 4, 2007

With all the craziness happening outside the actual litigation of the Nichols case, I was very pleased to see that Judge Fuller has released a new order in the case. After finding that the 400-person witness list is too long, Judge Fuller has ordered the prosecution to shorten it. It’s a reasonable request. Everyone needs to have an idea of who on that list will actually be testifying and the prosecution should do its best to avoid redundant testimony. This is exactly the kind of thing that should be happening. My only criticism is that it should have been ordered some time ago. There’s no way the defense can practically prepare for trial without knowing which witnesses are actually going to testify. Both sides agree that this trial needs to be fair and careful, and this is a step in the right direction.
