Legal Notes on Georgia and The South

Still No Stay for Alderman

Posted by Maggie on October 17, 2007

While the Supreme Court case regarding lethal injection is pending, the Georgia Supreme Court refused to order a stay for Jack Alderman, who’s scheduled to die on Friday. Other states have stayed executions pending the ruling, and Alderman’s lawyers will meet with Pardons and Paroles to address the issue today and they’ve also filed suit in Butts County challenging lethal injection on the same grounds as the USSC case.

Virginia may beat Georgia to the punch, as they have an execution on Thursday where no stay has been granted. The USSC has yet to get involved with the stays.
